May13 Update

We've decided on the first winner for 2013 and they will receive £2000 of this year's £10 000.  Pupils from Tormead School submitted the winning bid and we'll shortly be announcing who won.

We still need to find a good home for £8000 and we have expanded the 2013 Youth for Charity project so that charities can be nominated by any young person (or group) in Surrey aged between 11 and 16.

We will be selecting 4 more winners in 2013.  We will limit the number of bids accepted so that each bid will have a 1 in 5 chance of winning not less than £2000.

Submissions should be received by the end of September 2013.

• Firstly tell us which charity from our list you want to bid for and we will confirm it is exclusively yours for this year's competition

• Students or groups will contact their chosen charities to learn more about the work of the charity and then prepare a short submission for us to judge

• Schools or other youth organisations that propose a minimum of four different charities get a guarantee from us that at least one of their proposals will receive a £2000 cash award

When considering charities, students will:
  • need to consider areas of human need – whether it is local or international
  • find and contact charities that seek to help people
  • explain the Youth for Charity project to the charities so you can learn what the charity would do with a cash award.
  • need to interact with the charity and robustly research the charities aims, where they get their existing funding from, what they would spend an award on, etc.

The submission: Presentations/bids will be submitted online ideally by the end of September 2013.

The presentation should be able to be read or viewed in 5 minutes or less and can be

  • Written
  • Video
  • PowerPoint or similar
  • Mixture! – a combination of the above

Awards will be made at the end of 2013. We’ll encourage students to present the awards to the successful charities and to participate in media stories reporting on the winners and how the awards will be spent.
